The Salt Box Museum will once again participate in the Four Centuries in a Weekend event.
This event includes 27 diverse historic sites in Union County, from humble farmhouses to extravagant mansions, which share the story of our evolution from the Colonial era Elizabethtown of 1664.
Salt Box Museum Hours:
- Saturday, October 17, 10 AM – 5 PM
- Sunday, October 18, 12 Noon – 5 PM
Docents will be stamping “passport” for those particiapting school children. The Salt Box Museum is located at 1350 Springfield Avenue, New Providence, NJ.
Join us for guided tours of the Salt Box House and all it’s artifacts and exhibits on Sunday, July 12, 1-3 PM. Future Open Houses include:
American Legion Post 433 of New Providence, New Jersey will conduct its annual Flag Retirement Service on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, 2015, beginning at 7 pm. The Legion will properly destroy approximately 3,000 United States flags that have been worn by use and the passage of time. The New Providence Police Honor Guard will participate in this service, and the Honorable Al Morgan, Mayor of the Borough of New Providence will speak. All are welcome to attend this service, which will be held outside the Legion at 357 Elkwood Avenue.
The Salt Box Fair will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, 9 AM to 3 PM, on the grounds of the Salt Box Museum grounds located at 1350 Springfield Avenue, New Providence, NJ. The rain date is 5/9/2015.
At the Society’s Annual Dinner on April 16th, we will be treated to a talk by J. Richard Pierce on the more unusual historical aspects of the American flag. Mr. Pierce is the author of the 2005 book, The Stars and Stripes, Fabric of the American Spirit, which highlights the evolution and broad variations the flag has undergone.
The Society will host a Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 7th, 2014 at the Salt Box Museum, located at 1350 Springfield Avenue, near the center of New Providence.
