On Saturday, September 21, 2024, over 17 New Jersey authors will be signing books and talking with visitors at the New Providence Book Festival. Located on the grounds of the historic Salt Box Museum, the festival will include a series of presentations by authors.

The festival will be held on the grounds of the Salt Box Museum at 1350 Springfield Avenue in New Providence, NJ 07974 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The rain date is September 28, 2024.

The New Providence Flea Market will be held on the grounds of the Salt Box Museum grounds, 1350 Springfield Avenue, New Providence, NJ 07974, from 9 am to 3 pm. There will also be a bake sale and some vendors.
Volunteers are needed to help sell our “treasures.” Also, donations of gently used items would be greatly appreciated for this fundraiser. If interested, please call 1-908-665-1034 or send us a message through our contact form.
Once again the New Providence Historical Society will host the Salt Box Craft Fair. The fair will take place on Saturday, May 11, from 9AM to 3PM on the grounds of the Salt Box Museum at 1350 Springfield Avenue in New Providence, NJ 07974.

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Society’s Annual Dinner, historian Patricia Wells will share her in-depth knowledge of America’s Executive Mansion.
The Annual Dinner will begin at 6 PM at Vintage Tavern in Gillette.

The Salt Box Museum will be open for tours on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Thursday, October 12th, at 7 PM, our guest speaker, Angus Gillespie will share his knowledge of this vital and vibrant topic. This talk is open to all at the DeCorso Center at 15 E 4th Street in New Providence, NJ.

Goods from all around the world are placed in large containers which are transported across the ocean in ships, then loaded on tractor-trailers and railroad flatbeds. But when and where did this worldchanging invention get started? New Jersey perhaps?
